La disparition des choses // Amélie Rajotte
Description
Year of creation: 2022
Duration: 50 min
2 dancers, 2 musicians, 1 video performer on stage
A collaboration with media artist Nelly-Ève Rajotte, La disparition des choses (The Disappearance of Things) follows Amelie Rajotte’s performative installation La possibilité d’une tragédie (The Possibility of a Tragedy; Tangente, 2019).
Combining dance with real-time video and sound design, the piece explores the intricate relationship between imagination and memory, in their impressive ability to bring back to life — and to the senses — things that are no more.
In a sensory search for mnemonic debris, dancers Amélie Rajotte and Marie-Philippe Santerre recompose, within and without, the experience of nature in its absence. This quest brings the performers, through sensation and movement actions such as stroking, tearing or plucking, stirring and digging, to an exploration of invisible and imaginary matters, surfaces and terrain. The result brings a physical state that sculpts the “in-side” of the body and its proximal space. Hands sniff the empty air, bodies re-direct their senses over and over through extensions, torsions and delicate balances, the deployment and folding in of the body. Through repetition, accumulation and exhaustion of the movement, the dancers conjure an uncanny connection with an invisible world, materializing the Disappearance of Things.
